Band & Orchestra Information

The deadline for the District Nine Band and Orchestra festival is to be postmarked by January 11, 2010.  A deadline is set so the festival process from application to performance runs smoothly.  You may send your entry in early to avoid the worry of missing a deadline.  Once again, we are using the Online Registration System.

When you enter in the number of PARTS during the registration process, PLEASE remember that this is an amount of music you need for your students to be able to sightread!   For example, if you have 10 flute players, I would think 5 parts/copies of music would be enough for the sightreading process. Our District almost ended up doubling the amount opf money we spent on sight-reading music in 2008 because this was not done correctly!

Your work preference cannot be guaranteed, but we will certainly do our best to honor your preference.  Remember, you are required to work one full day if you have a group performing at the festival.  You site preference will also be honored if possible.

Send completed forms and check to:

Mike Yaros
Rose City Middle School
PO Box 407

Make sure to make a copy of your applications.

Friendly Reminders

  • Check your State Yearbook:  2009–- 2010,  for the current rules and regulations.  The Yearbook is now online at www.msboa.org under the "MSBOA Members"  tab.
  • Make sure the required number you are planning to play is listed on this year's required music list.  Please keep in mind that the online list is the “Official” list.
  • Video taping of band performances will only be allowed from a designated area within the performance room.
  • NO VIDEO OR AUDIO TAPING IN THE SIGHT-READING ROOM!
  • Make sure you order 3 extra scores for each piece that your group is performing.  Each judge must have an ORIGINAL SCORE.  If you have to use photocopies, you must have written permission from the PUBLISHER.  According to MSBOA guidelines, a letter from your music dealer (JW Pepper etc...) is NOT acceptable.  If you do not have original scores or permission from the publisher to photocopy, your group will receive NO RATING!!!!!
  • Talk to your students about the proper behavior at the festival.  Their behavior reflects on themselves, the school district, yourself, and our entire festival operation.  Let them know that poor behavior may result in disqualification.
